After three days in Venice, we caught the water boat to the station for our first train ride to Tuscany! Riding through the countryside and neighboring cities, we arrived in Florence in a little over two hours. Starving as we picked up our rental car, we made a quick Whopper stop at none other than Burger King (of all places in Italy, I know…we keep it classy) and hit the open roads toward the wine country of Italy, Tuscany (Montepulciano to be exact). This was actually the only time we had a car since we planned to drive out to a place that didn’t have much transportation. It was such a relaxing town and the way we planned our cities wasn’t exactly intentional but we were really happy with the order of it. From the bustling city, to the refreshing water, then peaceful countryside. We spent the next few days taking it extremely easy, really just wandering the town a bit, eating pasta, and driving around the countryside. Surprisingly it was the coldest city of all (it almost felt like winter!) so we weren’t able to do the wind-blowing-in-your-hair-as-the-sun-sets-behind-the-hills vespa thing (insert visual of Harry and Lloyd on scooter per Dumb and Dumber here).

After another few days, we drove back into Florence to spend our remaining days in the beautiful city. Florence was a bit reminiscent of Paris with all the great shops, food vendors, and cobblestone alleys. We loved it! As it was the last stretch of our time away from the states, we were satisfying some more of our home food cravings even eating Chinese and Mexican food.

A look into Tuscany and Florence!

Arriving at our B&B, Locanda San Francesco, on the highest point
in town and this beautiful view. This was one of the best places we’ve stayed.
Super intimate with just four rooms, complimentary snacks and delicious breakfast,
and warm hospitality. And of course, that view.

This is a winery called Cantine d’Ricci, the oldest winery we’ve ever been to.
Actually, it’s one of the oldest wineries in the world. We followed
the stairs down into the underground cave and there was almost a slight
spookiness because of it’s age. It was pretty amazing being transported back, to see
that wine has been made even thousands of years back.

We touched down early morning in Venice from Paris and took the bus into the main town. We arrived at the dock luggage in hand, fresh from the busy city and breathed in the clean, crisp air. We were really in Venice and it was more than we imagined. The water was a tropical turquoise blue and it was so refreshing to be near the water in a completely different environment. After a week of being in the bustling city, we felt completely relaxed. We took the water taxi (there aren’t any cars in the main city of Venice) to our apartment which was perfectly situated near the Rialto Bridge and fish market. Bright, spacious, modern, and clean, we felt right at home. Venice was the perfect place to kick off our honeymoon. The beauty of the town, the endless gelato shops, surprisingly affordable and delicious food. And the first time we travelled everywhere by foot due to the lack of transportation. Even looking back on our photographs now, it still feels surreal. This city built on water in all it’s beauty. It almost feels fake but has so much history. A look into our stop in one of the most beautiful places we’ve seen… Venice!

One of the many things we had in common was that we felt we weren’t as well travelled we wished. Juggling two jobs made it trickier so we would satisfy the itch to get out of town by taking regular road trips every chance we could find. But for many years, one big thing on top of that jet setting bucket list was a trip to Europe one day. And one day finally became last fall, for our Paris wedding nonetheless. We planned the once-in-a-lifetime escapade in a matter of months, throwing caution to the wind, and just making it happen. Knowing close to nothing about Europe, thankfully the internet guided us through. And crossed fingers. Starting in Paris where we chose for our wedding destination, we went on to Italy for our honeymoon flying into Venice, training it (not a real word?) to Montepulciano (wine country) and ending in Florence. And it turned out to be the best trip of our lives. A look into the first stop…Paris!

After months of planning, spreadsheets, and packing, the day is here and we’re off to the airport at 4am!
I was impressed that Jin actually stayed up the entire night hoping it would help with jet lag.

Jinda_Photography_Paris-1

Our wedding attired packed in our carry on and we’re off for our first out of country flight together!
I was a little nervous about the longest flight I’ve taken since I was 12. Movies definitely helped!

Jinda_Photography_Paris-3Jinda_Photography_Paris-4

11 hours later, we’ve arrived! Feels surreal, which overrides the lack of sleep 🙂
I think we were up for about 30 hours without sleep since I couldn’t sleep on the plane.

Our first meal in Paris! Not quite sure what most of the menu meant but it sure looked tasty…

This became our favorite area of Paris. Endless cafes, shops, clean, hip, and cobblestone alley ways.

It started to rain when we got out of dinner and we decided to make the best of it and walk home.
Rain in Paris is pretty romantic I’d have to say.

Our first subway experience!

Jinda_Photography_Paris-33 Jinda_Photography_Paris-32

We were en route the Eiffel Tower not knowing exactly where it was.
Turned the corner and literally gasped in shock. Partly because we weren’t expecting
it right then and because it was really happening. Seeing a major icon you’ve only seen in
movies in real life is pretty mind blowing. I’ll never forget that moment. We were
giddy like little school girls kids.

It’s funny how these are a novelty in the states so I was excited to see them everywhere in Paris.

Paris really is romantic. There were couples everywhere so in love, affectionate,
kissing, just enjoying being in the moment with one another in this beautiful place…
(would’ve taken a photo but it might’ve come off a little creepy)

Jinda_Photography_Paris-dJinda_Photography_Paris-85

We didn’t realize until overhearing a conversation that the Mona Lisa was actually
housed in the Lourve. So we spent a lot of time speed walking through the gigantic
museum looking for her. And we knew we found her when there was a crowd of people.
And behind this crowd was a small painting of Mona.
Smaller than expected but still priceless to see this masterpiece in person.

Jinda_Photography_Paris-1-4

It took so long looking for Mona that it was dark out when we left the museum.
But boy was it worth seeing the dome in all it’s sparkling glory.

Jinda_Photography_Paris-91Jinda_Photography_Paris-90

I loved that Jin suggested taking a pedicab to our dinner boat for fun.
It was probably one of my favorite memories of the trip. Super bumpy
cobblestone city streets and a little boom box with loud, quirky music added
even more to the adventure.

Jinda_Photography_Paris-95Jinda_Photography_Paris-1-3Jinda_Photography_Paris-94

After strolling through the bridge, we arrived at the charming dinner boat.

Seeing the Eiffel Tower lit up for the first time from the boat was incredibly beautiful.
It was also strangely emotional. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better,
the lights started to sparkle.

It’s really rare when we meet a couple that has known each other since they were kids. But we adore that kind of love story that spans over the years and blossoms into something that will last a lifetime. Laura and Cory first met when they were young as neighbors and reconnected when they got older as friendship turned into love. Needless to say, the rest was history.

We were honored when Laura and Cory asked us to be their wedding photographers.  The admiration they had for one another, their excitement for their wedding vision, and of course the fact that we absolutely love California weddings. And who can complain about a little dose of warmth and sunshine in January. After a full day of travel by plane and a four-hour drive north of San Francisco, we pulled up to the Albion River Inn near Mendocino, CA when it was pitch dark. We had no idea where we were or where the endless winding country roads lead us that night. But the sound of waves crashing outside our room was enough to make us feel we were in for something pretty amazing come daylight.

The next morning we woke up and drew back the shades and a breathtaking coastal view stared back at us. There was no doubt why Laura and Cory chose this beautiful, remote oceanside location to have their wedding.

On top of the fact this was the most remote location we’ve travelled to for a wedding, this was also the first wedding where the bride and groom chose to forgo the first look and go with the tradition of not seeing one another until they walked down the aisle as that’s how they always pictured their wedding day. Laura spent the morning with her two bridesmaids in their charming suite getting ready and toasting away and the groom his last moments before getting married with his groomsmen. Until it was time for the two to see each other for the first time on their wedding day. The look on Laura and Cory’s faces were very emotional as was Cory’s father who officiated the two to be married. There, in front of a beautiful ocean surrounded by their closest loved ones, Laura and Cory became husband and wife.

A lovely nautical theme the couple designed themselves adorned every detail of a very small and intimate wedding, one of our favorite kinds, as loved ones toasted and danced the night away as the sunset melted into moonlight. We can’t think of a better way to have started off 2015 than with this very special wedding. Congratulations to Laura and Cory! And a look into their day…
