With products yelling out from across the shelves, “me! me!”, finding the perfect one out of a million is a never ending journey. But through the many that come and go, there are a few that I always stand by. These are also my go-to’s for weddings when the days are long, there’s minimal time for touch up, and time isn’t on your side:

1. Prestige automatic waterproof eyeliner
This is the one eyeliner that hasn’t let me down through the years. I’ve been using this for as long as I can remember! It even lasted through jumping into the lake one summer without emerging like a wet racoon and I love that the black is a pure black.

2. Urban Decay eye shadow primer potion
This is what helps keep the eyeliner on along with your eye shadow. She has your back on keeping eye makeup from running down your face hours later.

3. Foot Petals & Dr. Scholls For Her Rub Relief Strips
I am a self confessed shoe & heel-aholic . But I am also all about comfort because I walk a lot at times and prefer not to look like a giraffe in heels if I can help it. And we’re too familiar with the fact that it always seems to be a struggle between cuteness and comfort. Well, compromise no more! At least for the most part. These babies allow me to wear some shoes (actually a huge fraction) that I’d never have given another chance had I not known about these shoe pads. I have them in almost every single pair and they are especially helpful on long-day shoots like weddings. And many of us know all too well that it’s really challenging to find a pair of cute shoes to get you through hours on your feet.

I use the foot petals for the heel for both my heels and flats to keep the shoe from rubbing and sometimes use the ball of foot ones for shoes with little padding on the base. I also use Dr. Scholl’s strips for my shoes (mainly all of my flats). They look like a skinny strip of foam but I love them because I can customize where to put them in my shoe by where it rubs against my feet, which is usually around the edges of my flats. I find the best deals on foot petals at Nordstrom Rack and have spotted them at Marshalls but you can also find them online or at Nordstrom. I get my strips at Target.

4. Kenra volume spray 25
It’s a common challenge to get your curls to stay through the day and since my sister introduced me to this hair spray ages ago, it’s still my number one. I love that it doesn’t make your hair crispyitty crunchitty, yet soft, and holds it down on the curls.

That about wraps it up! Feel free to ask any questions and would love to hear about your favs!

Words of wisdom for a fulfilling life, found during this week’s surf for inspiration. Hope your summer is off to a wonderful start!

“As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn’t supposed to ever let us down, probably will. You’ll have your heart broken and you’ll break others’ hearts. You’ll fight with your best friend, and you’ll cry because time is flying by. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you’ve never been hurt. Life comes with no guarantees, no time outs, no second chances. you just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off, speak out, dance in the pouring rain, hold someone’s hand, comfort a friend, fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, and smile until your face hurts. Don’t be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all, live in the moment because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back.”

When my sister got engaged last year, I was contemplating if I should do the wedding photography or enjoy the day as a full-time maid of honor. I knew it was probably best to sit back that day and be one of her bridesmaids but I couldn’t stop thinking about how special it would be to be the one who captured the biggest day of my one and only sister’s wedding day. And she really wanted me to do both things, but of course in reality we didn’t think that was possible. In the end, I decided I’d be the maid of honor and and leave my photographer duties on my left hand (I’m right handed) and shoot casually.

Her San Francisco wedding was last month and I ended up shooting as much as I could while being her maid of honor. And her designer. It’s a good thing I love multi-tasking! Being huge foodies (my favorite type of people), Judy and Eugene put so much attention into the treats and the food for their guests. I ended up designing a number of things including a trio of macaroons that each guest would take home (yuzu, raspberry, blood orange, yum!), chocolate toffee hazelnut candies (I seriously think they were laced with something magical), and signage for their wishing tree where the guests could write their well wishes on a card and hang it on the tree.

After all the hard work, research, and attention to detail was said and done, everything came together beautifully on their wedding day. And hats off to Jin for being such a great sport and contributor in everything coming together as well, he really impressed me. I’m so thankful that we could be a part in making my sister’s wedding day everything she imagined it to be.

We’ve been researching for endless hours for a new album company, and we’re happy to announce we’ve found the absolute perfect one! It was tricky because we were admittedly being super picky and the key was to find something that fit our brand to the T with a bunch of different requirements. Good looks, aesthetic, top quality craftsmanship, high end vibe, and luxurious with a modern twist. You know when you find an amazing pair of shoes, but then there’s one little thing that just throws it all off? It was kinda like that til we came across this company. As soon as we saw photos of them online it was love at first sight. And just like the anniversary album, we tracked this sample album after designing it til the day it arrived and ripped open the box as soon as it landed on the doorstep. The pink popcorn flew everywhere as the album slid out. It was by far nothing like the one I had ordered from a random company online and designed myself with a template years ago. It was like a fine art book you’d find in a high end furniture gallery. Sleek, platinum silk cover with a slight sheen, super high quality, lookin’ all sexy in its box, with photographs printed on premium paper inside. I have to admit, before entering into this lovely world of wedding photography, I had no clue about the importance of wedding albums. But I gotta say, I’m sold on why couple’s have invested in these beautiful heirlooms. You’re showcasing something that holds memories from the biggest day of your lives, possibly the highest quality photos you’ll have together.

As for the finer details on these goods, they’re museum quality, press printed coffee table style photography books from Vancouver, Canada (one of our favorite metropolitan, foodie cities). Each one is hand crafted and designed to last for generations. Complete with an imprint of your names, they come in a variety of yummy colors and sizes, spiced up with custom end papers, and a beautiful presentation box to keep the book safe. If you’re going to, or even if you already have had your engagement or wedding photos taken, feel free to shoot us a message if you’d like to know more about ordering one of these babies. And instead of saying “you have to be here to know”, here are some photos so you can see for yourself. Enjoy!

You may recognize this sweet couple, if you missed their wedding post you can see them here!

When you drop almost $3k on just one lens alone, it better be as good as grandma’s home made pecan pie! Luckily we’re here to report that our new 70-200L IS II lens was worth every penny! I could go almost the whole wedding with nothing but this lens and be a happy camper. I love it’s compression, improved image stabilization, contrast, and sharpness through the whole zoom range. If you’re a Canon photographer out there and you’ve been thinking about biting the bullet on this lens…you will be very VERY satisfied!  Here’s to even more amazing pictures for our clients using nothing but the best pro gear!

And there’s no better way to show off this lens than with a few samples shots while Linda and I were location scouting. You know our drill. We use each other for testing and trying out compositions but of course I only end up posting pics of her because I mean really…who wants to see me when I get pictures of Linda like these below. =) I love this lens!
